Stallings-Evans Sports Medicine Center
location: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina
opened: 2009
The Stallings-Evans Sports Medicine Center will provide much-needed space for patient care, education, service and research to intercollegiate student athletes as well as students, faculty and staff on the UNC campus. An existing gymnasium built in the 1930's was renovated to house the rehabilitation area and offices, while a new 6,000 sf addition was designed to create a common entry point and provide a new hydrotherapy area and restrooms. The new entry tower helps identify and enhance the visibility of the sports medicine program. The project also transformed what was a nondescript service corridor into an attractive pedestrian thoroughfare with new plazas, walkways, landscape elements, and improved accessibility.
